LOW SPEED VEHICLE [LSV] REQUIREMENTS
Street legal golf carts are registered with the NC Department of Motor Vehicles and require yearly inspection. NC street legal requirements include:

Must have a VIN (vehicle identification number)

Must be inspected and registered with NC DMV.

Must be equipped with headlights, break lights, turn signals, tail lights, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, windshields, windshield wipers, speedometer, and seat belts.

Must be insured for liability

May only be operated by a licensed driver of age 16 or older.

May only be driven on streets posted 35 mph or less.
It should be noted that some neighborhoods and municipalities may not require carts to be street legal or may have additional requirements and restrictions on local use of golf carts. Please reach out to your local jurisdiction for current requirements.
